We all want a faster metabolism, right? I mean, who doesn’t want to burn more calories at rest? Even the typical “hardgainer” like me wants their body to be as efficient as possible.
The problem is that our lifestyles are not conducive to creating a high performing metabolism. Our days of sitting at a desk for 8+ hours, sitting in our cars for another hour, and then sitting on the couch after dinner are killing our ability to be fat burning machines.
Your metabolism, or more simply, the rate at which we burn calories at rest is dictated by a lot of different factors including:
- Your genetics
- Your body fat percentage/BMI
- Your lifestyle
- Your diet
- Your activity level
- Your sleep patterns
In today’s video, I share 9 simple steps that will show you how to speed up your metabolism and will help get your body working FAR more efficiently.
Over the last 17 years as a fitness coach, I’ve seen some huge turnarounds with my clients when they started taking these steps and instead of struggling to lose fat, their bodies literally became a fat burning furnace. Sounds good, right? Well, it’s certainly possible and regardless of how stubborn your body is and how difficult it is for you to shed fat, it CAN be changed!
So take a minute to watch the video and let me know your thoughts.

There’s that water thing again. The body is basically a steam engine. It needs fuel to burn, and it needs water, lots and lots of water, to convert that heat energy into mechanical energy (movement and metabolism).
Did you know that in the 1860s, in the days when the transcontinental railroad was first completed, the locomotives needed to stop to fill up with water every twenty miles? So every twenty miles along the railroad routes a little town sprang up. That’s where the term “jerkwater town” comes from, because the train crew would jerk the cord on the water tower spigot to pour water into the locomotive. I learned this fascinating factoid while visiting the Golden Spike National Monument in Utah a couple of years ago.
Geeky, I know. But the steam engine – human body analogy helps remind me of the importance of drinking plenty of water.
Thanks for that tidbit of useless history trivia, David! Actually I’m fascinated by history and didn’t know this. And yes, I liken the body to a steam engine as well and use in analogies with my clients…
To take the geeky trivia thing even further, I was thinking about this analogy again today. I realized that, if the old-time steam trains had to stop every twenty miles or so to tank up with water, then if you can train yourself to run a marathon distance without drinking liquids, you would literally be “more powerful than a locomotive!” In other words, YOU can be SUPERMAN!
